How to perform Netsuite Preview Release Testing?

Netsuite since many years keep improving their process. With new improvements every time, requires user to test their process and confirm they are not seeing any issue. Netsuite make copy of production and call it Release Preview Account. If you have access to RP account ( Release Preview) , you will see account name with RP under account List

Testing Released Preview Step by Step:

1. Check Preference:

     Before start testing functionality , it is good to verify Preferences. Go through all type of preferences, validate/compare with production's preferences. It will be useful if you note it down in an excel or google sheet.Keeping track in a document help in future releases too.

2. Update Email preference: 

      Update Preview Release preferences with your email id to get all emails notification, very useful if any error comes on record or functionality.

3. Give access to users :

     Give access to users who are owner of the process. Assign access to develop to access all scripts/workflows created/modified by them. Same way assign access to someone from operation , finance, sales ops etc. 

4. Read Release Notes:

   Always read Release Notes first. Note down points where you are expected to see some changes/updates. This will help you in testing important functionality first. Add important updates/points into excel/google sheet also.

5. Functionality need testing: 

    As you know all updates released by Netsuite for certain area, try testing functionality related to those areas     first.

6. Document Every Test Case:
   Document all test cases in a google sheet or excel file, this document help in future testings also. You can share this document with others in future releases as well and they can replicate in their testing.

7. Add screenshots: While testing, make sure to capture screenshots and add into documents. If you are testing some functionality on sales order, capture before and after screenshots. 

8. Contact owners of Bundled Scripts: 

     If your company is using bundled scripts from other developer, make sure they are testing scripts on their ends. This will make sure all functionalities are up to date and tested properly.

Post Release:

 Preview Release testing was successful , there was no error , still you have to keep eye on Production. In case of any issue, keep track of it and see if that is not related to New Release.
